Go Go Babyz Australia-New Zealand is really more of a story than a company. We’re a company, of course. But what we’re about is a more of a journey than a corporate pitch.
So instead of bashing some meaningless value statements to death in this space (haven’t you had enough of that anyway?), I’d rather tell you about how we came to be.
In May of 2010 I moved to the sunny coast of Australia from the United States. I said ‘good-bye’ to my farm in rural Virginia and got on a plane with my husband headed for a new life in the land down under. (Insert hysterical sobbing.) We were excited about the promise of adventure in a new country and the promotion my husband received in moving here, but we had left a lot of loved ones and precious memories behind. It was a giant leap of faith. A 9,000-mile leap of faith. (Excuse me, a 15,000-kilometre leap. I’m still working out these conversions.)
I wasn’t just a newbie in Australia, I was a newbie “mum,” too. A double newbie. This was me:
Why are people calling my child ‘bubs’?
What’s this kindy place and do we need to go there?
Where am I supposed to get diapers?
And what in the heck are “nappies”?’
With no support system at one of the most vulnerable times in a woman’s life, I was truly winging it with my little one in a new world.
Through the course of planning our move here, I discovered a super awesome product called an Infant Cruizer by a company called Go Go Babyz in San Jose, California. It helped me solve two of my biggest worries about the trip overseas (and all the subsequent travel I knew we’d be doing):
#1 - How do I get my car seat from here to there easily, and...
#2 - What do I do with my child in the airport? Carry her? Take an extra pram? Then where do I put the pram?
I was quite stressed about this actually.
So I literally hit the floor when one morning at a play group back in the US a mom came in with an Infant Cruizer, which is a trolley-type thing that allows you to snap a baby capsule car seat into it and wheel your baby around. Both problems solved. I went straight home and bought one online. It made the trip a breeze.
Fast forward to the first few months in Australia...
Because it’s so easy to use, and way more convenient than a pram, I ended up taking the Infant Cruizer everywhere with me - the mall, cafes, restaurants, the post office, doctor’s office. And everywhere I went, people were asking me what it was and where I got it. I decided to call this Go Go Babyz company in San Jose to find out if they were interested in distributing in Australia and New Zealand.
They were. And here we are.
There is so much in between those last two sentences. (But this is already so long, and I’m not sure you’re still reading.) Like the building of a great relationship and friendship with Go Go Babyz, the inventors, manufacturers and distributors of these products in the US and Europe. They are family-owned and run. They are super generous, fun and smart. I feel like one of the luckiest people in the world to have both found a truly innovative product that people love AND a partner-company of people I truly like and admire. And to have had the wisdom to seize this great opportunity when it presented itself. (Did I just call myself wise?)
As far as the products go, they really speak for themselves. There’s nothing else quite like them and nothing that competes in the realm of a total travel solutions. Go Go Babyz has been focused on creating unique travel products for families and are continuing to innovate as I write this. Click here for news on the latest products coming soon down under!
I realize this is a crazy-long “About” section. But isn’t it better to read the real “About” of a company, the inside details of how something came to be and to see the personalities of the people involved, instead of some lame attempt to convince you to buy stuff?
If you buy our products, I hope it’s because you’re excited about them. I’m certainly excited to be the distributor of these products in Australia and New Zealand, and I’ll continue to bring more innovative family travel solutions to the market here.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my story - however long it is - and I hope, just like me, you’ll become a lifelong fan of Go Go Babyz.
Happy and safe travels,
Abby Slate
